Creeks
Maybe it wasn't the same back then
But better
It's hard to know --
Two young men one dark one light
Jumping into together
To swim the heat away
This just as my life is closing its windows
With a view through curtains
Loved with dust
And with trees gone quiet
So even as much as I don't dare to
As I watch them
I think of creeks
I imagine back then
How such friends must have thrown water and grins
At each other
And how with everything else flowing by
Then or now
They would have never thought of me
I wonder too if I could be like them ever again --
Probably not
But that doesn't stop me and my envy
From waving across wide worlds
To join them
As their laughs like history float up
Through the willows
